Auto-detect location
Once you've set up your geo rules, One Privacy handles the rest. Every visitor's region is detected automatically and the matching rule's banner is shown.
How it works
When a visitor lands on your website, One Privacy looks at the request to figure out which country or region they're coming from. It then finds the geo rule that includes that region and serves the right banner.
The visitor doesn't see anything different. They get the right banner straight away, without having to pick a region or fill anything in.
Why this matters
A visitor in Germany should see an opt-in banner. A visitor in California should see an opt-out banner. A visitor in Australia might see a lighter, friendlier one.
Auto-detect makes that happen automatically, so you set up your rules once and stop thinking about them.
Test a specific region
When you're verifying your banner on a staging site, you sometimes want to see the EU experience even though you're sitting in New York. The Test install snippet supports a location override for exactly this.
Open Scripts in the left sidebar. On the Test tab, use the Location dropdown to pick a region. The snippet on screen updates to include that region.
Use that snippet on your staging site to see the banner the way a visitor in that region would see it.
What if detection isn't accurate?
For most visitors, auto-detect works well. If you ever spot a case where it doesn't, contact our support team with the details and we'll look into it.
